Glass Painted Dolphin Vase
This is quite a simple glass painted vase. The design is based on the Dolphin Roundle you can find in our Free Designs section with a little tweaking to make it suitable for the vase.
In this project we used Marabu Fun and Fancy as the Outliner and Pebeo Vitrall Glass Paints to flood fill. The vase itself was bought quite cheaply from a local supermarket (Morrisons £1.99) although they seemed to be slight seconds a careful look found two which could be used.
This first difficulty with this project was holding the design against the glass. You will notice I managed this with a mixture of blue tack and pushing a towel inside the vase. Even then there were some difficulties with the outlining as the glass was quite thick.
Once outlined the painting was fairly simple. This is normally the way with flat glass painting. I normally enjoy doing the blending. With this piece the dolphin had single colour blocks. The water on the other hand was a blend of several colours including white for the crest tops.
Obviously I could have chosen any sort of design for this vase and the technique would have been the same. (I do tend to steer clear of flower designs on vases. It never seems quite right!).
