This Glass Painted Celtic box is a good example of recycling or rather up-cycling as I think they call it. The original plastic box had chocolates in it. Obviously I gave it a good wash and removed all the labels before I started working on it.
Any pastic box you get your hands on will probably be a different size to this one but the techniques you can use to work on it can be the same. Don’t think you have to cover every single bit in glass paint, it’s find to leave clear bits. In my example I have used mostly opaque(ish) glass paints but I did use transparent ones on the ends just to show this worked just as well.

Materials and Equipment:
- Plastic Box (you may want to do a little test to ensure it doesn’t react to your glass paints).
- Outliner.
- Glass Paints.
- Yours Designs.
- Adhesive Lead (optional).
- Flat sided Glass Bead (optional).
- Paint Brush.
- Craft Knife.
- Scissors.
- Boning Tool (or some other plastic implement for sticking down the adhesive lead).

How to make theĀ Glass Painted Celtic Box.
- Make sure the plastic box is clear of all labels and give it a wash.
- Measure it up and sort out your designs for each surface.
- If you are using adhesive lead for the main sections now it the time to put it on. Ensure if is well pressed down so paint can’t seep underneath. As usual with the adhesive lead try and work it so you have as few lose ends as possible. Often you can get it down to just one!
- Once you have added the adhesive lead you can start with the outliner. Use Bluetack to fix the design under the surface and then copy the design using the outliner. Do one side at a time giving each time to dry before moving it round.
- When you have finished the outlining and it is all dry then it is time to start painting. Again you will have to work on one side at a time giving each time to dry before moving on to the next. When doing the lid you can add a glass bead/s into the paint when it is tacky dry (not completely dry).
And that’s basically it. LIke most of our projects you can change the design, the colour scheme amd basically anything else to make the project your own. We hop you enjoy making it.
